"...expansion of the nautical industry brings forth new responsibilities. Two are especially important: care for nature, the environment, as well as the safety of maritime traffic. We live in a time which exemplifi es the general awareness of the dangers in global warming. We all have to contribute to limiting the severe consequences of global warming, which will harm the Mediterranean region. In the nautical realm we have to think about decreasing the CO2 emissions and the extreme overuse of fossil fuels. Technological advances that can bring solutions to these two goals are welcomed. We also have to consistently care for the safety of maritime traffi c. The Mediterranean is well known for its mild climate. Extreme weather conditions are rare for this region if compared to other seas. However, with new climate changes we must be ready to expect new challenges. The increasing number of boats out in the sea during bad weather conditions and/or general increase of traffic requires constant attention and care for the improvement of its safety..."
